Legend of the Five Rings
Miko was always small for her age. Luckily she excelled at the tasks expected from her for service at the court or at the temple, so she didn’t have to enter the army.
She was training to become a shugenja when a border dispute erupted between holdings of the Soshi family and the Akodo. Peace was quickly restored, but her father was asked for a tribute by the daimyo, to be sent to go and live in the Akodo lands.
Miko was sent as one of the tributes, and she looked upon this as a chance to learn more of the Akodo, and the Lion clan as a whole.
She started attending court as much as she could. During her second year, while walking through the halls of the palace, she noticed a door slightly open, and a pair of guards not at their usual place. Thinking this odd, she called upon the light of lord moon to guide her vision, she found the bodies of both guards hidden underneath so bushes outside. Alarmed she hurried towards the main hall to warn her master. But when she entered she saw two ninja poised to strike, clearly illuminated by the light of the moon. As she didn’t really have time to utter much of a warning, she called upon the ancestors to guide the daimyo and his nearest bodyguard in the coming battle. People were baffled by her prayer for about half a second. That’s when battle erupted. Miko was thrown to the ground by a pair of bushi, not knowing what was going on. But the ninja were dispatched within seconds, and then she was roughly questioned. She explained herself, and some attending shugenja explained her prayers. So her role in uncovering and stopping this assassination attempt became clear. It gave her great renown at court.
